Hows your memory?

Most of us have trouble remembering what we had for dinner last night and yet the human brain is supposed to be the most wondrous and complex organ in creation. So, how do you feel now that it has been revealed in studies that chimpanzees have an even more remarkable ability than our own for photographic memory?. Makes you want to reach for a banana eh?.
But it has all been proven. Scientists designed a number of experiments and were astonished to find that apes had a high capacity for remembering patterns, shapes and numbers. When put to the test against their human cousins the chimps completed the tests in record time; much faster than the humans and with even greater accuracy.
The chimps were pitted against adult humans, males and female, and in most cases came out on top. The next stage of this study is for the scientists to compare the chimps abilities with those of human children. Now THAT should be interesting and I would like to know the outcome of those tests.

India will surprise you
December 6, 2007 on 11:12 am | In Culture, Miscellaneous | No CommentsIf you ever tell someone that you have been to India for a holiday you often get an interesting reaction. I would say that is because so many people have preconceived ideas about this wonderful country. You have no idea what you are missing if you never try a trip to India. We went some years back and are considering a return trip sometime in the near future. I’m wondering though what changes I will find there. Not too many I’m hoping as it was a great experience even 15 years ago.
Fair enough, it really depends on where you travel in India as to what conditions you will find and I would advise those ‘inexperienced’ travellers to place Goa at the top of their itinerary. Destination-wise the trip is about eight hours and cheap flights to Goa are widely available now. Take into consideration which time of year you decide to go and bear in mind that India experiences monsoon season and sees a lot of rain at that time.
We meet many people who complain about not being able to get vegetarian food in France; well in India you wont be disappointed if you are vegie. In all, I would say ‘go’ to Goa, keep an open mind about the country and it’s people and I would be surprised if you were not planning a return trip in the not too distant future.

Attention all Trekkies
December 6, 2007 on 10:55 am | In Science Fiction Technology, Star Trek | No CommentsIf you are a diehard Star Trek fan, a Trekkie, then you will be excited to know that ‘Star Trek the Tour’ is about to launch on the 18 January 2008 in California. This will be the starting base for a multi-city tour where fans of the show can get to meet up with their favourite actors from the series, and the films, and touch base with all stuff Trek.
This experience will be totally hands-on and interactive; fans will be able to see the sets, props and models and experience rides and simulators. And here is the biggie - you will even get a chance to sit in Captain Kirks own chair. Now what a photo op that would make!. If you have ever wondered what life on board the Enterprise is like now will be your chance to be a crew member for a day, or as many times as you like depending on how keen you are.
Trekkie’s are known for their strong loyalty and I think this is a fantastic way for the makers of this show to reward fans loyalty over the years. If you have a Trekkie in your family I reckon a ticket to this event would make a wonderful Xmas present.
