Just how much is a Wii worth?

December 13, 2007 on 7:12 pm | In Late news | No Comments

Okay all you parents out there. Have you committed the gravest error that could be considered as such this Xmas…have you left it too late to buy…a Nintendo Wii?. If so then maybe you are one of the thousands of people who are currently being ripped off by retailers as they up the price on this darn machine especially for the Xmas period. Merry Xmas eh?.

Consumers are complaining that they are being forced to buy ‘package’ deals which means they have to fork out not only for the Wii-thing but ‘games included’ as well. The retailers are laughing all the way to the bank. Makes you wish you had listened to your kids’ nagging and whinging request for this wretched thing some months back.

Even those on Ebay are getting into the act with Wii’s seling for £500 and upwards. Let me tell you this. Our’s is one household that will be surviving this Xmas without a Nintendo Wii. This Xmas and beyond with fingers crossed.

Reading matter

December 13, 2007 on 9:59 am | In Culture, Miscellaneous | No Comments

We are great readers in this house and as a result we have managed to build up quite a collection of old and out of date magazines. Just doing a clear out recently I was adding up just how much we actually spend buying the magazines on a weekly basis. I have come to the conclusion that maybe a magazine subscription or two would save us a bit of money. Being selective would be an idea too as we tend to impulse buy leading to a lot of useless mags building up that only get read once and then put aside.

I was thinking of a subscription to New Scientist from the magazine group as a Xmas treat for myself this year; I enjoy the articles and plus the kids can use the information for school projects. There’s a lot of reading in this magazine and it is one of those that you can put down and pick up again over a period of time.  Magazines are tending to cost almost as much as some books now so the one’s that have the most content seem to be the best investment.
