How long is your nose?
January 14, 2008 on 2:46 pm | In Culture | No CommentsThey say that anyone who claims he always tells the truth is a liar. And a survey seems to have confirmed that, with those interviewed admitting an average four fibs a day – five by men and three by women. Come on, we all do it from time to time and the most frequent daily fib is… “nothing’s wrong with me, I’m fine”. How often have we said that to someone?
The next most popular fib is..”Nice to see you”; those of us who work in customer service have had to say that one through clenched teeth I’m sure – or have said it to a visiting relative or annoying neighbour.
“No, your bum doesn’t look big in that”…how many of us girls have heard THAT one! well, we do persist in asking our men such stupid questions don’t we…”Sorry, I don’t have any cash on me”…”I’m on my way”…and that old standby “the cheque is in the post”. Well, we all have the option of paying online now so what fib can we use there?…”sorry, the system was down for a while”. Even I have used that one a couple of times.
I wonder if anyone is capable of getting through the day by telling the truth, the whole truth and nothing BUT the truth. If anyone has seen the Jim Carrey film ‘Liar Liar’ we all know just how much trouble being honest can get us into!
