If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

If you work in the IT industry today then you will be wanting to keep right up to date with all the new specifications such as Temperature@lert.  This has recently been accepted by the industry as the only SPEC Power compliant service and the ONLY one available with 64-bit drivers.

Read on for more vital information…
SPECpower_ssj2008 is the latest installment of an IT industry benchmark evaluates the power and performance characteristics in larger volume server class computers. It was created out of a need to monitor and regroup energy use from the IT industry and computer manufactures around the world.

SPECpower_ssj2008 does not only measure AC power from the source but it delivers a calibrated matrix for all computer functions including ambient temperature. There are two temperature measuring tools that are compatible with SPECpower_ssj2008 and the only one with support for 64-bit drivers is Temperarture@lert.

With the combination of the SPECpower_ssj2008 and Temperature@lert system administrators can run both temperature and power controls. The SPECpower_ssj2008 measures power for the AC input and combines the implementation to a performance metric. This provides pertinent information about what power considerations are made when considering which data center. Coupled with Temperature@lert, the power and temperature gradient works in symbiotic form to provide the best accuracy available in the IT industry.

We’d like to extend a special thanks to Greg D. and his team at Dell Inc. whose deep knowledge and expertise made this possible.

And you thought it was safe to go back in the water?…

March 11, 2008 on 7:31 pm | In Culture | No Comments

Planning to go on holiday in the sunny Mediterranean this summer? planning on enjoying lots of fun in the sea? be careful because they will be out there! Giant stinging jellyfish that it. And when these guys sting you they mean business!

A plague of stinging jellyfish is set to hit the tourist beaches of the Mediterranean this summer as millions of so-called ‘mauve stingers’ are washed ashore.  Scientists studying the phenomena at a research institute in Barcelona have discovered massive numbers of the jellyfish with a nasty sting massing in deeper waters off the Costa Brava.

Researchers have discovered huge colonies of the Pelagia noctiluca species of the animal growing over the winter months in deeper waters, waiting to be washed ashore with the summer tides.  In some cases they discovered colonies with up to ten jellyfish per cubic metre of water. But why is this?

Overfishing of the seas means that many of the natural predators of jellyfish, such as larger fish like tuna, are simply no longer around to regulate population growth while the numbers of smaller fish that compete with food with jellyfish are also dwindling.  Climate change is also being blamed for the sudden population explosion as warmer seas make ideal breeding grounds for jellyfish.

Fish obviously play a major part in the life of the seas, maybe this should serve as a warning as to overfishing our waters.
