The most annoying sound…

Sorry, but the most annoying sound of all to me comes from way back in the 1980’s when many cars owned by young males all had turbo engines.

They were loud, drank a lot of fuel and required a lot of revving first thing in the morning…especially a COLD morning. Our neighbour had such an engine in his car. He left for work at 6.30am each day and for about 20 minutes prior to leaving the garage he had to run his engine so as to ‘warm it up’. So, for four years, we woke up - whether we wanted to or not - at 6.35am five days a week.

Thank god people are more sensible nowadays.

When many people are planning their annual summer holiday. Now, you might think this advice shoud go without saying…but…I really need to remind people about it.

Things happen; accidents happen; people have accidents; kids get sick; luggage gets lost; flights get cancelled; airlines double book…so do hotels sometimes.

Hope I haven’t reminded you too much of the down side of travelling…? have no cares…just remember the travel insurance and you’ll be okay.

A fun way to get the kids to read

June 12, 2008 on 4:23 pm | In Culture, Miscellaneous | No Comments

We spend a lot of time reading to our youngest kids a wide variety of childrens stories and have made it a regular bedtime routine for them. The effort is paying off as they both love books and are always enthusiastic when we bring out a new one for them to read.

Our aim is to have the three year old reading by the time he is four and starts school; one way you can also achieve this is to make it more interesting for them by ordering them a children’s book which is personalized - meaning their name appears in the story throughout the book.  ‘Kids Personally’ offer such books as well as DVD’s and music which can feature your child. Brilliant idea in my opinion. It does not add so much as a ‘novelty’ to reading and music but makes it fun and allows your child to easily identify with a story or song.

They love it and these books, DVD’s etc also make a great keepsake.
