It pays not to be wealthy in Mexico

Apart from the shocking levels of crime in it’s cities and border towns, and the high numbers of young women who are abducted and murdered each year, the increasing rate of wealthy Mexican’s being kidnapped is being met with an interesting way of fighting this.
So fearful are many people about this problem that they are now having tiny GPS devices implanted into their bodies so that they can be traced by satellite should they be kidnapped.
This is very like the former British Home Secretary David Blunkett’s idea of micro-chipping every newborn baby instead of introducing the ID card…
But I suppose it does have a point and if it works then maybe some parents will look at doing the same to their children; imagine if children like Madeline McCann were wearing a ‘chip’ - maybe she would have been found by now…?

UFO sightings in Nevada
August 11, 2008 on 8:52 am | In Magic, Science Fiction Technology | No CommentsIt is strange that the majority of UFO sightings are witnessed over the skies of the United States; it’s a fair bet to say that if you sat out every night and watched the skies you would see some form of weird flying object. And some states report more sightings than others.
Nevada is one of them; you hear about dolphin watching tours, whale watching tours - so why has no-one yet come up with their own version of Vegas vacations which focus on UFO spotting…?
I think it’s great runner - there’s a lot of weird stuff going on right now up there!

Staying at a holiday resort…? read the small print - if it’s there.
August 10, 2008 on 9:01 am | In Travel | No CommentsI recently read a story about a british family who went on holiday to Greece. They booked two weeks at an expensive resort with wonderful childrens playground facilities - all shown in the glossy brochures - and arrived expecting to have the time of their lives.
They then got a shock. The childrens facilities were reserved only for the use of the children of the German guests; in fact, much of the resort had areas only for the use of German guests. Now, of you have paid several thousand to stay at a resort you expect to be able to use the entire establishment. I know most people realise that when Germans are around you have to race to bag a pool sunlounger at sunrise - at dawn you see all their towels covering the outdoor furniture covers on the poolside chairs but gradually resort owners are starting to ban this kind of thing.
But being told you cannot use the childrens playground because you are not German…? It is one thing reading the small print, but what if there was no small print to read?
