This time next week we shall be strolling around the Piazza San Marco in beautiful Venice, we are finally taking time out for a family vacation of our own after working so had this year. Living in Europe we always find it a difficult decision to make as to where to go for a few days but this time we decided in Italy.

We are planning a more major scale long haul vacation for next year and one place we have not yet visited is Brazil; lately we have started to look at Brazil vacation packages for around June 2009 and are looking to go on to Australia after Brazil to take in my nephew’s wedding on June 27th.

We loved Argentina a few years back and South America really is a diverse continent when it comes travel - Rio here we come…next year!!!

Sonic reigns supreme!

October 23, 2008 on 3:27 pm | In Culture | No Comments

Sonic the Hedgehog has been named the most popular video-game character of all time. The popular cartoon topped the poll of over 500 gamers, compiled to mark the start of the London Games Festival this week. Now, it all depends on personal opinion of course as to whether YOU think Sonic is the best but he certainly has been around for a very long time.

Me? I have to say I prefer ol’ Mario. I remember my first Nintendo console where Mario ran only from left to right and jump over this and that. My god some of those levels were soooo frustrating !

But look at what the kids are playing these days; who’d have ever thought that gaming would go so far - and get so expensive !

October 23, 2008 on 3:23 pm | In Culture | No Comments

Scientists have amazingly grown a prostate gland from just a single cell in a wonderful breakthrough that could pave the way for new cancer drugs. In a ‘compelling and important study’, researchers turned a stem cell from a mouse prostate into an entire gland.
This finding is likely to speed research into ways of beating prostate cancer and this, if it all succeeds, will surely be one of the biggest breakthroughs in modern science.

As more men begin to develop this cancer at a younger age - some in their early forties - it is so important that a cure be found. No longer just the domain of the older man environmental factors are being blamed for the increase in younger men being diagnosed with this terrible disease.

Keep your fingers crossed that a cure will come out of this latest breakthrough - especially if you have sons.
