Do we need 3D TV?

December 20, 2008 on 10:43 am | In Technology | No Comments

As if we don’t watch enough of the ‘goggle box’ as it is now technology is giving us another way to spend even more time in front of the telly…3D TV!

Sky is promising to stun viewers by introducing 3D television to millions of living rooms within the next year – so what do you think…?

And will it require a new type of screen and will it distort the shapes of the people on the TV so that they look twice a wide and need something like a dose of Decaslim…?

The satellite broadcaster demonstrated the new technology this week by showing images shot at rugby and football matches which made the action appear to leap out of the screen – just what we need eh?

Viewers will need to wear special glasses which allow the brain to process images so that they appear to be in your living room. Trouble is have you ever been to a 3D movie at the cinema…?

Those glasses are a pain and the weird imagery tends to give you a headache – I have been to see two 3D films and never made it through either of them.

I think I will pass up on the opportunity to do this with TV – imagine the cast of Eastenders jumping out of the screen at you!!

I’m dreaming of a white Xmas…in Las Vegas?!

December 20, 2008 on 10:25 am | In Culture, Magic | No Comments

The last place on earth you would expect to see blanketed in snow is the gambling kingdom of Las Vegas, Nevada…so you always thought.

But amazingly over six inches of snow fell on the city, forcing schools to close and causing problems for motorists unused to driving in slippery conditions.

The famous las vegas hotels and landmarks of America’s gambling capital were left covered under a blanket of snow as the snowy storm blew into the valley on Wednesday.

This city has only seen light snow fall just five times since 1937 – makes you wonder dosen’t it…?

How low can it go?

December 20, 2008 on 10:13 am | In Culture, Finance | No Comments

It is crazy to see how empty the shops are right now especially with Xmas just a week away. Just a week ao we were in one of the largest toy shops in our city and just three people were in the store – THREE! – and they were only browsing from the looks of it.

The shops are now holding huge discount sales and even staying open 24 hours until Xmas Eve – even top designer boutiques such as Oscar de la Renta are feeling the pinch and offering massive bargains.

It is a ’shoppers paradise’ for whoever has the money at the moment – but how many people actually DO…?
