Helping those chicks fly the nest
August 8, 2009 on 1:29 pm | In Culture | No CommentsThere is no better way for your kids to find out that they definitely DO know everything and that is for them to move out, pay their own bills and run their own lives. Of course many discover that reality is too tough and isn’t Mum’s place so much more comfortable…? of course it is.
My son has just completed a major long distance moving job and has moved from France to Germany to set up house with his fiancee; he is having the time of his life but, oh boy, have some things come at a shock for him. The cost of things for a start…food, internet connections, telephone lines, health insurance. The list goes on.
I have to admit I do help them out as I think all parents should; young couples are up against enough obstacles these days and I want to know that my son and my future daughter-in-law are not struggling too much.

It’s nice having a tanned face but…
August 8, 2009 on 1:22 pm | In Culture | No CommentsNobody wants the wrinkles that go with a tanned skin…and tanning and wrinkled leathery skin do go hand in hand. We have been enjoying lot’s of beautiful hot sunshine here during our stay and I have worked up a lovely golden tan without even trying (all that outside work…) but keeping the face protected has been a challenge.
I bought a good pot of night wrinkle cream to keep my skin happy at night but I have to admit I am forgetful about applying a face cream in the morning…I used to be very regimented about such things but I am just too busy these days to stand in front of a mirror. I’ve a nice lightly tanned face which is great as it gives me some colour without needing makeup, but I definitely steer clear of overdoing it – I despise that overcooked, leathery brown look that so many women go in for nowadays. It is aging and looks just awful.
