Some of historys most famous people were a pain in the backside
January 19, 2010 on 10:25 pm | In Culture | No CommentsYep, hemorrhoids – piles – that’s them and how many people have not got intimate knowledge of this little problem…? well, me for a start – but I am one of the lucky ones I guess. It sounds dreadful.
But you are not alone. Some very famous people from history suffered sore botties; Hitler, Churchill, Queen Victoria even – and it was well known that Henry VIII’s life was plagued by them though nobody would have had the nerve to giggle about it. Nowadays of course there are all manners of hemorrhoids treatments so sufferers today at least have an easier time of it than our ancestors.
But some things remain the same – bums – they can still be a pain when they want to be.

When they find a cure for acne they’ll make a fortune
January 19, 2010 on 10:17 pm | In Culture | No CommentsForget about finding a cure for the common cold because the cold is not something you can cure – it is merely the body ridding itself of an infection and, despite how miserable the process is, you don’t want to stop your system doing that.
But a cure for acne – there lies the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. You can buy the best acne products there are on the market but you just know that they are not going to rid you of the condition completely. I like to wonder at how people coped with this condition hundreds of years ago – you never see portraits of famous people with spotty faces or pitted skin. Seems the medieval artists were experts at their own brand of airbrushing back then!

Has the internet affected the way we interact with family and friends?
January 19, 2010 on 10:11 pm | In Technology | No CommentsYou would have to say ‘yes’ otherwise you are either deluded or have been totally cut off from civilisation for the past 15 years. The internet has totally influenced and consumed the way we communicate, work, think, play…
It has no doubt also been a major reason why the divorce rate has soared with so many social networking sites reuniting former lovers and childhood sweethearts – and these have certainly brought out a dark side in many people. On the other hand it has made vastly easier staying in contact with friends and family who live miles apart – you can do things like set up your own website where they can keep track of what you are up to, or simply place happy greetings on the web like people such as richard willich do on theirs.
Like it or hate it, the internet – and all it’s pros and cons – is here to stay and we better learn to get along with it.
