The DinoZaurus

After using Windows for so long, you get used to having to load new drivers for every new piece of hardware that you pick up but that’s not the case for other operating systems.

For instance, we were heading off to the UK for a while I thought that it would be an idea to get a little modem for my Sharp SL-5500 Zaurus. Anyway, a quite hunt round e-bay turned up maybe a half-dozen compact flash drive modems . Would they work though?

A quick search on google revealed next to nothing about connecting such things to the Zaurus. Anyway, I figured that the HP modem would be pretty standard and at £5 wasn’t a massive outlay either.

So, what do you need to do to install it? Nothing, just plug it in and off it goes. That’s how Linux handles such things. So no need for the CD that came with it to add the Windows drivers.

Some kids have all the fun!

June 25, 2010 on 5:09 pm | In Culture, Travel | No Comments

So say my two youngest children. It appears that we lag behind some of their friends when it comes to taking holidays in the kinds of locations that kids reckon are the best. Now, our kids are pretty well travelled for their young ages – in recent years they have lived in France, travelled all over Spain, seen a solar eclipse in Turkey and eaten a ton of pizza in Venice. But there’s somewhere they want to go…

Many of their friends are going on Disney vacations in the summer break and it seems our kids feel a bit left out by being the only one’s who have not yet been to visit Mickey Mouse. They have been to Portaventura in Spain though to see Woody Woodpecker – and that is where James cut his eye open on one of the slides.

Funniest movie moments…

June 24, 2010 on 10:05 pm | In Culture | No Comments

You can take your pick about which is your favourite funny moment in a film but mine is a definite ’stand out’.  One of my favourite films is the ‘Full Monty’ and the best scene to me is the one where one of the guys realises he does not exactly ‘measure up’ appropriately for being a male stripper.

So he purchases a device which is supposed to promote ‘growth’ – rather like what maxoderm does for men – and finds that it has not worked. He is in a phone box trying desperately to explain to the sales girl that ‘nothing is any bigger’. This is a classic scene in my opinion, only a minute or two but very funny :)
