We are celebrating in our household right now because my son phoned last night with news we have all been waiting for…after two years of constant job interviews he has finally got a job and one that he will really enjoy as well. It is not easy when you are living in a foreign country and learning the language and culture but he has persevered and now it has all paid off. I feel like handing out the Rocky Patel cigars at the moment we are so happy for him!

I am very proud to be sure. He has recently married his sweetheart and supported her through her recent university exams – at which she excelled – so there’s double cause for celebration. It really is great news for our family and I know it will lead on to bigger and better things for the both of them.

Roll out those lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer!

January 20, 2011 on 1:48 pm | In Culture | No Comments

That’s how the song goes and boy do I wish the winter would roll itself up and disappear for good. It has been freezing since November and even though I do not mind a bit of cooler weather I have had my fill of frosty mornings and scraping ice off the car windows. December though was particularly bad and minus 17 is by far the coldest weather I have ever experienced, I was even tempted to go out and buy an electric blanket as our heating refused to work for a few weeks.

When is spring…March, April??? who cares, it seems like it is too far away for me and even though I don’t like time to pass by too quickly this time I just wish it would. I’ve had enough of the cold!!!

Doggy owners please note!

January 20, 2011 on 1:41 pm | In Culture | No Comments

I like to take a regular walk around the local area but one thing that spoils it is the amount of muck left by the local dog owners. Now I say ‘owners’ because you cannot blame the dogs, but rather the owners who do nothing to clean up after their animals. I hate this aspect about people who own dogs, I love dogs enough but resent the way the owners leave such a mess after their dogs have finished doing what they do.

If they would only look up places like dogtraining.org and learn how to maybe train their dogs things would improve but I reckon it is the owners themselves who need some training in dog ownership!
