A dress made from bottles…!

April 13, 2009 on 4:21 pm | In Culture | No Comments

Well, the other day I bought one of those supermarket carry bags – the recycled type – and was fascinated to see that it was made out of recycled plastic bottles. It looked and felt totally different to the original materials believe me!

Now get ready for this!

Designers from Debenhams have come up with a £55 trouser suit that is made entirely from recycled plastic bottles – would you wear it…?

The bottles, which would otherwise have been destined for landfill sites, are cleaned and have their labels removed before being ground down into chips which are melted at a plant in Taiwan.  The mixture is then refined and woven into a soft but hard-wearing type of polyester.  Around 50 are used in each suit and looks totally natural.

It took 12 months to create the suit – how many of us though are THAT into the eco-thing…
