Careful - Big Brother is on your computer

I have just been reading something quite disturbing seeing as I, like millions of people, use the internet on a daily basis. The creator of the World Wide Web, Sir Tim Berners-Lee, has hit out at internet providers’ plans to snoop on what customers look at online. While I find this worrying I already suspected it was already happening! The British scientist says people need to be protected from software that monitors which websites they visit so it can create “personalised” adverts. How many of us do this considering the numbers of people who use their webistes to earn some spare cash? millions do!

He has warned that the system being introduced by leading internet service providers - the companies that connect people to the internet –could be abused in that the information they gleen from your online activities could be shared with third parties. Example: if you do a number of searches about, say, books about AIDS, your insurance company could receive this information and thus up your premiums.

Very worrying stuff indeed.
