Oh for some nice new warm clothes…
November 26, 2011 on 9:36 pm | In Uncategorized | No CommentsDespite my hopes and prayers to the contrary it looks as though we are gearing up for yet another freezing cold winter – last winter was the coldest I have ever experienced and I hoped it would be the last where I would have to wear a coat indoors…I doubt it!
Stocking up on warm stuff is what I’m about now, looking at websites such as carhartt pants at dungarees.net and other sites that stock good stuff for the cold weather.I have always preferred leggings but if we are in for minus temps again the leggings wont do the job!

The new indestructible mosquito!
February 5, 2011 on 3:32 pm | In Uncategorized | No CommentsA new type of mosquito discovered in Africa could further complicate the fight to control malaria, according to scientists. French researchers collecting mosquitoes from ponds near villages in Burkina Faso, West Africa, say they have identified a subtype of the Anopheles gambiae unlike any documented before. The mosquito is highly susceptible to infection with the malaria parasite, likes to rest outside, not indoors, and can therefore evade most current control measures. A Dr Ken Vernick discovered the mosquito – nicknamed Goundry after one of the villages near where it was discovered – with colleagues at the French National Centre for Scientific Research in Paris.
Malaria is an infectious disease spread by mosquitoes that threatens up to half the world’s population. Most of its victims are children under five in poor countries in sub-Saharan Africa. The World Health Organisation’s latest malaria report found that some progress against the disease has been made over the past decade, with deaths estimated to have dropped to 781,000 in 2009 from nearly a million in 2000.

Negotiating the skincare minefield.
September 21, 2010 on 2:35 pm | In Uncategorized | No CommentsUnfortunately, it’s not so easy to find the exact right treatment for a skin condition as there are hundreds of products available at all kinds of prices for all types of skins and with very little indication as to how effective they might be for your specific problem.
However, with the massive growth in the acne treatment industry there are finally a few sites around which review the effectiveness of the various products on offer and can thus be used to short-list the products that you might be interested in. Interestingly, they don’t just promote the most expensive product and generally some review sites will offer a significant discount on the top listed products. Then again there is also the organic alternative which many people are turning to in increasing numbers though for the more serious forms of acne you still need to see what your doctor has to say about your treatment.
