No need to get wet anymore
February 26, 2008 on 8:02 pm | In Culture |Remember those bubble umbrellas from the 1970’s? well, they have made a comeback. But unlike all those dreadful 70’s fashions this will actually be a trendsetter and keep you dry in heavy rain as well. We all know what it is like to get caught in heavy rain and winds…don’t you look a right fool when your brolly turns inside out and it drags you along the street?
It’s called the Nubrella!
Makers of the ‘Nubrella’ also claim that, once attached to your body via a piece of clothing, it allows you to sip your coffee or chat on the phone while walking down the street on a busy day.
The device, which retails at £30, was designed by former tennis pro Alan Kaufman. The sportsman turned inventor, who has spent six years working on the product, said: “We all know the problem with umbrellas is that they invert.
“That’s why I came up with the idea, because umbrellas are not great in the wind.”
Mr Kaufman, 45, first thought of the idea while in New York store on a wet and windy day. Looking out at shoppers braving the blustery weather, he watched people struggling to keep their umbrellas upright. For the past five years Mr Kaufman has been developing the product which he says is physically impossible to turn inside out like a traditional brolley and will not force a user to ‘bob about’ in the wind.
When not in use the Nubrella folds away and can be either carried or worn on the shoulders. But when if the weather turns sour and it starts to rain, a button instantly releases the Nubrella so that it covers the head and shoulders. And due it’s design it also keeps you warm! I can see this new item selling really well!
