Remember when TV’s had knobs?

We are looking to update our TV - the one we currently have was purchased back in 2002 and just six years ago it was the top of the range. But going around the electrical stores these days it is plain and obvious just how TV’s have changed and how out of date our ‘old’ JVC has become.
Our old JVC does not have knobs and it was the first TV I had which was fully remote controlled - I prefer the old ‘knob’ variety - simply because if the remote gets broken, or the batteries die, you are stuck.
Now we are having to choose between plasma screens and the new pop up tv which look certainly look great…but look to be a nightmare to learn how to use!

Stepping back in time 2
September 2, 2008 on 9:30 am | In Culture, Miscellaneous | No CommentsI was talking recently about a visit recently to an elderly relatives house and how it was like entering a time warp walking into the her house. They never bothered with staying up to date with all the new gadgets and developments yet have always been happy with their simple but old fashioned house.
Just looking through their kitchen cupboards was interesting in itself; remember when biscuits came in fancy decorative tins…? yep, she has held onto all of them with some going back forty and fifty years. I am sure they must count as collectors pieces now.
Even the bathroom with it’s ancient bathroom faucets and cast iron bath tub.

Stepping back in time
September 1, 2008 on 9:11 am | In Culture | No CommentsWe recently stayed at the home of an elderly relative for a few days and entering the house was like taking a step back in time. This is a couple who never bothered to stay up to date with the latest technology; no CD player, no stereo except for an old transistor radio which has to be 50 years old if it is a day.
The TV is showing signs of wear and tear too - knobs instead of remote control and no home theater furniture at all of course. It was interesting to see how some people are happy to live their lives without all the modern gadgets that are ‘must haves’ in everyone else’s homes.
