Planet of the robots

December 8, 2007 on 12:55 pm | In Science Fiction Technology |

Most of us remember that film, and the TV series, Planet of the Apes. That show where humans trained apes to assist people and then the apes got too smart, rebelled and then took over the planet and Man ended up being the one’s in cages doing tricks for banana’s. I am wondering how long it will be before this really becomes reality; not with apes telling us what to do though, but rather robots.

Toyota in Japan already utilise robot-ppower in it’s technology and in their car production plants. I spoke recently about the robot that dental students use there to practise their skills on, the one that goes ‘ouch!’. Now they have developed a robot that plays the violin for entertainment in nursing homes.

Not only this, but they have robots that help around the house and the office as well. Maybe this will be great news for housewives…

The Japanese have a tendency towards longevity and this is causing a rapid labour shortgage  for employment. So, robots seem to be the workforce for the future in Japan. How would you like to have your dinner cooked by R2D2?.
