Stop that asteroid!
May 9, 2008 on 11:33 am | In Science Fiction Technology |Remember that giant asteroid that is predicted will hit the earth and wipe out all of mankind…? well, it is a reality but is about sixty years away from doing any damage as yet. Still, scientists are so concerned about this big ball of space rock that plans are in place to stop it before it gets here.
Just like Tommy Lee Jones in the movie Space Cowboys, scientists are hoping to land astronauts on asteroid 2000SG344 so that they can study it; they will then piggy back the asteroid back to earth.
While it is not expected that it will actually strike the earth, it will sail perilously close enough to warrant intense surveillance. Bit worrying eh?
