Thwarting the really determined thieves is no easy thing…

We were having a talk the other day at work about the latest attempt by some thieves to relieve the store of a number of plasma televisions. In that they succeeded was not so important, it was the trouble they went to in order to plan their assault that amazed us.

At the same time they stole £3000 worth of mobile phones so these guys were dead serious about their business. Now, the store in question has all the new RFID security technology in place at the store’s entrance and exits but the way they got around it was simple. They set off the fire alarms and in the ensuing confusion grabbed the stock and made out through the front of the store. Yes, the radar set off the alarms but with the fire alarms making such a racket already nobody seemed to notice…

The guys have been identified and some of the stock has been recovered – but what it has taught store management is that front-of-store security needs reinforcing should another ‘emergency’ ever arise. Lesson learned.
