Who’s watching the pilot!

December 4, 2007 on 5:46 pm | In Technology |

An interesting, and in some ways unnerving, report was recently released in Australia that reveals a high number of airline pilots experience ‘out of body’ sensations while in the cockpit. As a frequent flyer myself I had to look at this and the reports were quite astonishing to read.

Apparently some pilots have the illusion that they are sitting on the wing of plane watching themselves sitting in the cockpit. This is due to spatial disorientation (SD) and causes some 26% of plane crashes. Experts say that all pilots at some stage lose sense of direction, height and speed with 90 - 100% of pilots experiencing this phenomena at some stage in their careers. This occurs mostly when a pilot is flying at high altitude with a relatively low workload.

Ok, so the answer is to stay busy guys!.

To the rest of you…have a nice flight!.
