Yet another promise of ‘youth’ in a jar
January 1, 2008 on 5:16 pm | In Culture |There seems to be a never ending supply of creams and potions that promise to make the user look ‘20 years younger’ on a seemingly endless assembly line. Just recently British women were falling over each other to get their hands on a pot of ‘Athena’ which was being hailed as a miracle maker for the face. In reality it was like smearing egg white all over your face and as soon as you smiled it cracked and your face looked like it was peeling. Still, people paid big money for it and were disappointed soon after. I wonder how many pots are sitting at the back of bathroom cabinets today?
Now there is yet another ‘miracle’ on the market, it promises to make you look ‘20 years younger’ (why is it always 20 years?)…and it comes from Russia. It is supposed to be the secret that Russian women have kept to themselves for ages and now, because they are such a generous lot - the Russians - they are sharing this ’secret’ with the rest of the worlds aging and desperate females. I have a small misgiving here…Russian women are not exactly known for their peachy baby-soft complexions. The Russian women I have met and seen look their age with a vengeance - no offence intended but I reckon they are a product of their harsh wintry climate.
But no doubt western women in their thousands will rush out and stock up on this latest product and then wonder what on earth possessed them to do it when they wake up looking no younger than they did the day before. By the way, if many people get out the photo album and take a look at how they actually looked 20 years ago would they really see that much difference? Only if you’re 18 or 20 years of age. Once you’re over the age of 50 what’s 20 years anyway…and what’s the use of a face that’s ‘younger’ when the areas below the neck certainly wont match!
